Welcome to Candelight Reads Fall Into Books Hop! I'm so happy to be one of the hoppers!
One question posed by the hop is… What is that special book you love to fall back into over and over?
I'll be honest, I rarely read a book more than once these days. Oh, I have a keeper shelf (okay, several), but with a toppling over sized TBR pile and lots of ebooks on my Kindle, I find myself reaching for new stories rather than one's I've already read.
Another question posed by the hop is… What's your favorite place to read?
Finding time to read amongst family needs and deadlines can be rough. I carry my Kindle everywhere in case I find myself with a spare few minutes. For me though, nothing beats opening a new book and having a chunk of time with no kids to drive anywhere, no animals to feed and no Internet to distract me. In all the busyness of our family, I have found the perfect place where that special kind of reading can happen—at the pool. Doesn't matter where, but the when is most important. My when? During a swim meet!
So not warm and fuzzy, right?
I'd love to say my fave reading spot is like the picture in upper right hand corner on my website. In my dreams, it is. A cozy chair or couch with a quilt next to a window, a cat (okay, more than one) on my lap, two dogs at my feet and a cup of hot tea or cider in a cozy-covered mug. Oh, yeah, don't forget the cookies!
That was me, pre-kids (minus the dogs and a few cats.) I'd sit on the couch next to wood-paned windows in our little English-style cottage in Oregon and read to my heart's content. Tea, check. Book, check. Cats, check. Blanket crocheted by Nana, check.
Now my fave reading time is sitting on a hard bench (because I forget a pad or a blanket), a water bottle full of iced tea, the smell of chlorine in the air, the sound of clapping and screaming surrounding me. Not romantic and inviting, except I have to spend hours at a swim meet. Hours and hours! Sometimes I have to go back twice if the kiddos make finals. That means lots of precious reading time handed to me on a Speedo kickboard! The only distraction is making sure I keep track of when my swimmers' events are coming. But that's what iPhone alarms are for. I love my pool reading time! And look forward to it throughout the year!!!!
One place I wouldn't try to read at is the rodeo! Not even between the events. I wouldn't want to miss any hot cowboys! Every September the Copper Mountain Rodeo returns to Marietta, Montana! That's the setting of my newest release, Kiss Me, Cowboy.
She didn’t mean to kiss him…
When dude ranch wrangler Charlotte – aka Charlie – Randall kisses Zack Harris in an act of empathy, she falls hat over spurs for the handsome military veteran turned cowboy. Zack has too many demons, however, and refuses to get involved. A year later, he's still stonewalling, and Charlie needs to move on with her life so she can find a fulfilling relationship, not frustrating unrequited love. Putting distance between them seems the best way to get Zack out of her head and heart…but that means quitting the job she loves and accepting a position in Colorado.
He didn’t mean to kiss her back…
Growing up, Zack longed for a real family, and had one with his squad while deployed in Afghanistan. Now, he's back in the States and doesn't want anything messing up his new ranch family, no matter how much he's attracted to the sexy, hard-working Charlie. She could break his heart and ruin the comfortable working relationship they and the other wranglers enjoy. Besides, her friends claim she's looking for the perfect guy, and perfect he's not.
A kiss is just a kiss…or is it?
When Zack learns Charlie's thinking about leaving the ranch, he decides to find her a boyfriend — someone so good, so perfect, she has a reason to stay in Montana. Until he realizes too late that the only cowboy he wants her kissing is him. Can he commit to love and convince Charlie not to leave? Or has she made up her mind to put the past, and the kiss that started it all, behind her and move on without him?
