This is the second to the last “authors with heart” spotlight and giveaway post from the now-cancelled 2020 project. Usually these follow the Mother's Day tote bag projects, but that didn't happen last year. Still I hope you enjoy these books from the authors who offered to sponsor the 2020 Mother's Day thermal bags for three Washington state Fisher Houses—VA Puget Sound Healthcare System in Seattle, Madigan Army Medical Center at JBLM, and VA Portland Health Care System in Vancouver.

FURBIDDEN by Deborah Blake is in the spotlight this week! It's the first book in her A Catskill Pet Rescue series. Here's what a reviewer had to say:

“I have loved Deborah Blakes's books all along, so I was very excited she decided to start a new genre. This didnt disappoint, it was a wonderful mystery, and I read it all in one sitting. Lots of twists and turns, and quirky small town people which combined to be so very entertaining and kept me guessing right to the end. Queenie was a purrrfect addition. I cant wait for more!” —Amazon Reviewer

Here's the blurb for FURBIDDEN FATALITY:

A lottery winner uses her good fortune to save a local pet sanctuary, but when a body is discovered on the property, she just might be in the doghouse in this first book in a new, charming cozy mystery series from author Deborah Blake.

Kari Stuart's life is going nowhere—until she unexpectedly wins the lottery. The twenty-nine-year-old instant multimillionaire is still mulling plans for her winnings when rescuing a bossy black kitten leads her to a semi-abandoned animal shelter. They need the cash—Kari needs a purpose.

But the dilapidated rescue is literally going to the dogs with a pending lawsuit, hard to adopt animals, and too much unwanted attention from the town's dog warden. When the warden turns up dead outside the shelter's dog kennels, Kari finds herself up a creek without a pooper-scooper.

With the help of some dedicated volunteers, a cute vet, and a kitten who mysteriously shows up just when she needs it, Kari must prove her innocence all while trying to save a dog on death row. Now she just needs to hope that her string of unexpected luck isn't about to run out.

This looks like a very sweet cozy mystery! And that cover. Too cute. I've featured Deborah before and excited for this new series of hers. I love books that feature animal rescues/sancturaries. What do you think?
